Final Review Meeting Sri Lanka
The final review meeting for the project “Artificial Intelligence framework for threat assessment and containment for COVID-19 and future epidemics while mitigating the socioeconomic impact on women, children, and underprivileged groups” was held at the University of Peradeniya on the 21st and 22nd of March 2023 at the Joint Research and Demonstration Center, University of Peradeniya. Three researchers from the Malaysian (ML) team and the Sri Lankan (SL) team. The meeting started by the principal investigators Prof. Janaka Ekanayake and Prof. Ir. Dr. Tiong Sieh Kiong briefing on the work carried out by respective groups. Then, the two research teams demonstrated the progress of their research pathways. From the Sri-Lankan team Research assistants, Lakshitha Ramanayake and Neranjan Senarath presented their progress on developing and conditioning the simulation engine PDSIM which focuses on realistically modeling human behavior and disease propagation to evaluate the impact and the efficacy of different interventions. On behalf of the Malaysian AI team, Prof. Prajindra Sankar presented the collision model's (MoCAS) progress. Further, the social sciences teams from both countries discussed their progress in their collaborative efforts. On the second day of the meeting, both teams discussed the potential collaborations that can be done in the field of Data Analytics / Artificial Intelligence and Social Sciences. As a final note, the final review meeting was a great success in terms of sharing the technology and knowledge from both the SL and ML teams and working towards possible synergies.
